A Squire Patton Boggs team led by partner Francesco Liberatore has successfully assisted a telecom company client in securing European Commission’s approval, under EU State aid rules, of a €500 million subsidy to support the deployment of broadband backhaul infrastructure in Spain.

The subsidy, funded through the EU Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), will support the deployment of broadband backhaul networks to foster the development of performant mobile services in Spain and help Spanish consumers and businesses in rural areas access high quality mobile services.

The Squire Patton Boggs Competition – Antitrust Practice Group has extensive experience of the RRF implementation under EU State aid rules since its establishment in 2021. For an explanation and discussion of the relevant key concepts of EU state aid law, its application and the implementation of the EU RRF please check out our webinar recording available here.
