Squire Patton Boggs has advised the Pelligra Group on its recent acquisition of Perth Glory FC, which competes in the country’s premier men’s competition (A-League Men), women’s competition (A-League Women) and youth competition (A-League Youth) under licence from the Australian Professional Leagues.
The Squire Patton Boggs team advising on this acquisition was led by Australian head of Corporate Tony Chong and director Blair Strickland. The transaction was completed on a rapid timeframe with club licensing arrangements, stadium hire arrangements, sponsorship arrangements and player contracts all negotiated contemporaneously. The Squire Patton Boggs team worked closely with the sell side advisors and the in-house team at the Australian Professional Leagues to ensure the smooth transition of the club to its new owner.
This marks another milestone transaction for the Squire Patton Boggs’ global Sports and Entertainment practice which has advised on a variety of sporting-related matters, such as basketball, tennis, golf, football, racing and the Olympics.
Pelligra Group has expanded its breadth of developments with a particular focus in the sports and entertainments sectors, acquiring interests in sporting clubs around the world. In Australia, the Group owns the Adelaide Lightning Women’s basketball team, Adelaide Giants Baseball team and the Canberra Braves and Adelaide Adrenaline Ice Hockey teams.
In Europe, it holds a 100% interest in Italian Serie C football club, Catania FC, including ownership of Catania Rugby, Catania Women’s Football, Catania Junior Football and the Varese Basketball Team.
