Squire Patton Boggs is pleased to announce the addition of principal John Rainwater to the firm’s global Labor & Employment Practice Group. Mr. Rainwater previously served as Regional Solicitor for the US Department of Labor (DOL), overseeing the Dallas and Denver regions.
“John is a seasoned attorney with deep expertise in employment law and extensive experience litigating a variety of high-profile matters,” said Meghan E. Hill, co-chair of Squire Patton Boggs’ global Labor & Employment Practice. “In addition to his federal contracting experience, John’s credentials in whistleblower enforcement and other investigations, including DOJ, EPA and state criminal prosecutions in health and safety, will add to our growing investigations capability and his insight will be extremely valuable to our clients.”
During his more than 25 years at the DOL, Mr. Rainwater served as a member of the Senior Executive Service and was responsible for all litigation and legal advice for all DOL agencies in an 11-state region: Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Utah, North Dakota, and South Dakota. He supervised approximately 50 multidisciplinary attorneys and staff who litigated and provided legal advice under 180 federal statutes and represented the DOL in federal courts and administrative tribunals. He also served as the DOL ethics officer for the Dallas and Denver regions.
Denver Managing Partner and chair of Squire Patton Boggs’ global ESH Practice Peter S. Gould added, “John is well-regarded in the Colorado legal community and among the national DOL bar. A multidimensional practitioner, he brings deep expertise across several key industries and is a highly skilled litigator and policy expert who will be a strong fit with our expanding team. We are delighted he decided to join us for this next chapter in his career.”
Mr. Rainwater’s arrival follows the recent additions of partner Jon G. Daryanani and of counsel Jill L. Ripke, who joined the firm’s global Labor & Employment Practice in Los Angeles.
Commenting on his new role, Mr. Rainwater said, “Engaging in public service has been a tremendous honor. I’m excited to join Squire Patton Boggs, a firm known for its global scale and impressive labor and employment and public policy practices, and I look forward to collaborating with my new colleagues.”
Mr. Rainwater earned his JD from the University of Kansas School of Law, his Master of Social Work from the University of Kansas, and his BA from Saint John’s University. He is a member of the Cherokee Nation and the Native American Bar Association.
