Squire Patton Boggs has won ESG Programme of the Year with Clyde & Co, Dechert and Eversheds Sutherland at the 2025 Legal Business Awards for a collaborative pro bono project with the Max Planck Foundation for International Peace and the Rule of Law (MPF), which assists at-risk Afghan legal professionals in relocating to Germany.
As part of the project, the firms worked with MPF to support Afghan applications for the humanitarian resettlement scheme, providing a lifeline for those unable to navigate the complex legal processes and ensuring viable means to pursue legal avenues to safety. In 2024, the project supported 188 families and over 1,029 people with their cases.
UK Pro Bono Legal Director Louisa Soper said: “We are incredibly proud of the dedication of our lawyers to this project. By harnessing the collective power of four law firms, we have been able to triple the number of applications made under this scheme and provide more pathways to safety for judges, lawyers, prosecutors and others targeted for their independent legal work in support of the rule of law.”
