Jessica Antal utilises her background in litigation, competition and regulatory law matters to advise on and assist with managing pro bono matters undertaken by our Australian offices in her role as a dedicated pro bono lawyer.

Jessica has provided a broad range of assistance to pro bono clients, particularly in relation to criminal injury compensation claims. Jessica works closely with colleagues in Australia and across our global offices to identify and provide the right support to our pro bono clients based on their needs, supporting the firm’s commitment making a meaningful contribution in removing the barriers to justice.

Pro Bono

  • Acting on a criminal injury compensation claim on behalf of a pro bono client for offences committed by two separate offenders, resulting in a combined compensation award of AU$191,000, including the maximum payout possible for offences committed by one of the two offenders.
  • Advising on a criminal injury compensation claim on behalf of a pro bono client, resulting in a compensation award of AU$84,000.
  • Advising on a criminal injury compensation claim on behalf of a pro bono client, resulting in a compensation award of AU$149,000.
  • Successful settling of Magistrates Court of Western Australia proceedings lodged against a pro bono client following years of family violence, harassment and intimidation against the client.
  • Undertaking a secondment to act as the principal lawyer for a Geraldton-based not-for-profit organisation supporting community members experiencing hardship.

Commercial Litigation

  • Assisting in preparing for multimillion-dollar proceedings before the Federal Court of Australia in relation to a contractual dispute.
  • Assisting in relation to Federal Court of Australia proceedings regarding an alleged breach of directors’ duties.
  • Liaising with key witnesses, drafting witness statements and pleadings in Federal Court of Australia proceedings brought in relation to industrial action.
  • Assisting in relation to an unfair dismissal matter brought by a high-profile client before the Fair Work Commission.

Competition, Regulatory and Compliance

  • Assisting in a long-standing misleading and deceptive conduct proceeding brought in the Federal Court of Australia under the Australian Consumer Law, spanning several years.
  • Reviewing and updating compliance policies and procedures for key clients, including fraud corruption control plans, anti-bribery and anti-corruption policies, conflict of interest policies and whistleblower policies.
  • Advising an Australian client with operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo on its anti-bribery and anti-corruption obligations.
  • Conducting document review in relation to the Royal Commission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation and Financial Services Industry.
