Jason Blakey is a partner in our Litigation team based in Leeds.

Jason specialises in commercial litigation dealing with a wide range of contractual and tortious disputes; corporate litigation involving disputes between shareholders and directors and claims under share purchase agreements; and specialist arbitration, particularly, under the Groceries Supply Code of Practice.

Jason primarily acts for companies, both public limited company’s (PLCs) and limited. His experience encompasses a range of business sectors, including manufacturing, energy/utilities, financial services, retail/food and engineering.

Commercial Litigation

  • Representing a global supplier of printing presses in various disputes with its customers alleging, amongst other things, breach of contract, breach of warranties and misrepresentation.
  • Acting for an electricity network provider in claims against multiple parties in respect of negligence, nuisance, and breach of restrictive covenants (and including the recoverability of regulatory incentives/losses).
  • Pursuing a claim for breach of contract and negligence against the IT provider of software to our gas distribution company.
  • Defending various claims brought by customers of our financial and administration services client in respect of IT software and services provided.
  • Acting for a renewable energy business in a dispute concerning gas extraction activities concerning claims for trespass, conversion, unjust enrichment and conspiracy.
  • Acting for a well-known food retailer appealing decisions by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) concerning the imposition of anti-dumping duty and import Value-Added Tax (VAT).
  • Defending an application for judicial review brought by the council against the landowner of Doncaster Sheffield Airport [2022 EWHC 3060 (Admin)].
  • Defending an automotive parts repair company against a claim by a car hire company for circa £6.5 million alleging dishonesty and used that as evidence for its extrapolation claim.
  • Acting for a limited company in numerous disputes, particularly, concerning a power plant in the Philippines, work done in Libya and a claim against a worldwide energy company in respect of a power plant in the UK.

Corporate Litigation

  • Acting for a group of shareholders in disputes with the main shareholder in two jurisdictions concerning the conduct and subsequent removal of the board of the company and practices by the board.
  • Representing one party of shareholders in a contractual dispute brought by the other following a joint venture between them including contesting the court’s jurisdiction.
  • Advising and assisting a company specialising in the production and distribution of equipment in the building/public work sectors with several claims under a share purchase agreement.
  • Acting for a private equity (PE) house in connection with claims under the warranties and fraud following its acquisition of a healthcare business.
  • Acting for the family shareholders in respect of a dispute with the majority investors concerning a security group of companies.

GSCOP/Arbitration

  • Defending several claims brought under the Groceries Supply Code of Practice and subsequent arbitral proceedings for a major food retailer including claims for unfair dealing, de-listing and variations to the contracts.
  • Acting for a biscuit manufacturer concerning a breach of contract claim with a supplier and including claims for unlawful price increases, quality issues and territorial exclusivity.
  • Representing a defendant trading company in connection with a claim and arbitral proceedings under the Federation of Oils, Seeds and Fats Associations.
