Matthew Dalzell leads our European Real Estate Practice Group, based in the Leeds office. His particular experience covers acquisitions and disposals, financing and structuring, with a predominant focus on the student accommodation and retail markets. Matthew also manages and undertakes significant property portfolio work.

    • Advising The Mansion Group on its first site acquisition in 2007, the launch of its first associated offshore student property fund, and continuing to advise on new fund and joint venture structures and the significant growth of and acquisition of sites into the current Mansion Student Accommodation Fund.
    • Advising Watchmoor Estates Limited in respect of its acquisition of Watchmoor Park for £42m. Led the multi-disciplinary team, advising on complex joint venture and funding arrangements with Capmark.
    • Advising Niche Homes in respect of the purchase (with primary and mezzanine funding) of a site and subsequent development of a student block of studio apartments in Leeds, followed by the disposal of the SPV upon practical completion.
    • Advising Barrett Steel on its purchase of steel stockholding sites across the UK, and also on the disposal of a former steel stockholding site in Gainsborough for residential development, in a joint venture with Dransfield Properties.
    • Advising Co-operative Group in relation to its disposals of Associated Co-operative Creameries Limited, Priory Motor Group and its remaining Department Stores. Also acting on behalf of Co-operative Group on Project Segmentation (disposal programme of over 200 former Balfour and Alldays stores), and acting on behalf of the retail acquisition team and the property portfolio team in their day to day roles.
    • Advising Lloyds TSB Bank and Yorkshire Bank in respect of secured lending for various portfolio acquisitions and development facilities.
