Gemma Finlayson is a director in our Labor & Employment Practice Group in Leeds. Gemma’s practice includes all areas of contentious and non-contentious employment law for a wide range of well-known national and international businesses. 

She has extensive experience in advisory work through both helplines and project work. This work can range between advising on restructures, collective redundancies, TUPE matters as well as general absence, grievance and disciplinary issues. Gemma also has extensive experience in advocacy and corporate support work.

  • Broad range of Tribunal experience, including advising on and conducting her own advocacy for large national clients at hearings in unfair dismissal, TUPE, discrimination and whistleblowing cases.
  • Regularly advises on the appointment and terminations of senior executives (up to CEO level of plcs) and negotiates the terms of related agreements. As Gemma advises both companies and individuals she is very aware of the challenges companies will face as part of these negotiations.
  • Works closely with the corporate team on mergers, acquisitions and disposals which involves advising HR teams on the process, carrying out the due diligence and drafting ancillary documents.
  • Supporting and advising large national and international companies on large scale redundancy projects including advising on strategy, drafting all relevant documentation from the start to the end, and advising on grievances and discrimination issues throughout the process.
  • First point of contact for the HR team of several national companies and provides on the spot advice on grievance, disciplinary, absence and performance issues.
