Ruslan A. Galkanov
Senior Advisor
Ruslan Galkanov is a senior advisor in the International Dispute Resolution Practice. He handles high-profile investor-state and commercial disputes and litigations in the construction, telecommunication, petrochemical, oil, gas and mining sectors.
He has multifarious professional experience, having worked as the legal officer and head of transit and energy security in an international organisation, as well as working as counsel with another international law firm. His experience also includes serving as a member of the core drafting team for the modernisation process of the Energy Charter Treaty. Ruslan worked as in-house counsel at a major international oil company and contributed to a research project on international arbitration. At the onset of his career, he also co-led a comprehensive project that culminated in the establishment of operations in Turkmenistan of two of the world’s largest international soft drink and food companies. Ruslan has also served as a team member of two legislative groups established to draft the new Civil Code and the Law on Hydrocarbon Resources of Turkmenistan.
Ruslan is qualified to be admitted to practice law in Turkmenistan.
- Representation of a foreign sovereign and foreign state-owned entities in an ICC arbitration involving a telecommunications project.
- Representation of a foreign state-owned entity in an SCC arbitration related to a natural gas purchase and sale contract.
- Representation of a foreign sovereign in eight ICSID arbitrations related to construction, telecommunications and agribusiness projects.
- Representation of a foreign state-owned claimant in an SCC arbitration in connection with a mining project.
- Representation of a foreign sovereign in asset recovery and protection litigations.
- Representation of a foreign sovereign and state-owned entities in contract negotiations with foreign counterparties related to the space, telecommunications and mining industries.
- Representation of several international petroleum and service companies before the tax and licensing authorities of two jurisdictions.
