Yerlan Jumatayev is an associate in the International Dispute Resolution Practice Group and has experience representing states and state organisations in Kazakhstan. He provides support in major arbitration proceedings related to oil and gas projects in Kazakhstan, and conducts due diligence and advises on project compliance. Yerlan also works with international clients preparing contracts and agreements.
His previous experience includes working for an international law firm assisting on significant projects in the Republic of Kazakhstan. His responsibilities included undertaking assignments, assisting with the preparation of contracts and work orders; preparation of firm presentations and responses to requests for proposals; preparation and submission of firm tender bids for major government and quasi-government tenders; registration and fulfilment of requirements for the company in the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC); anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) compliance; and full support of the invoicing process for clients.

  • Assisted the authorized body to represent the Republic of Kazakhstan in the PSA agreements in the preparation of documents for cost recovery arbitration of one of the largest oil and gas projects in Kazakhstan, provided legal support, translations and managed invoicing processes. Assisted in due diligence in identifying fraud and bribery in tender procedures.
  • Assisted on significant projects for the government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and quasi-governmental companies on review and preparation of documents, legal research and fulfilment of various requests.
  • Assisted national nuclear company in Kazakhstan in client communication; managed invoicing processes and supported document preparation.
