Jo Leigh is an associate in the Labour & Employment Practice Group, based in the Manchester office. Jo advises on all areas of contentious and non-contentious employment law.

Jo is also an active member of our Manchester Charity Committee, having previously been co-chair during her training contract. As a student, Jo delivered presentations in the employment tribunal to the local community to explain the process of a tribunal claim. She also spent two years as a welfare advisor for Leeds City Council.

  • Providing support to in-house counsel and HR professionals on a wide variety of day-to-day employment issues relating to grievance and disciplinary procedures, managing sickness absence, redundancy procedures and dismissals.
  • Advising on matters at the employment tribunal, defending a variety of claims, including constructive/unfair dismissal, discrimination, equal pay, and unlawful deductions.
  • Working with the firm’s corporate finance team to advise on all employment aspects of corporate transactions, including assessing risk and providing recommendations during due diligence, and drafting/negotiating key contractual documents (including service agreements, settlement agreements and bonus documentation).
  • Supporting clients with sensitive workplace investigations, including those in the retail sector and public sector.
  • Advising on, and managing, data subject access requests, including reviewing documentation for personal data and preparing the final response and documentation to send to the data subject.
  • Designing bespoke client training programmes covering discrimination, handling grievances, the disciplinary procedure and conducting workplace investigations.
