Jim Maiwurm, former chair emeritus and senior counsel, is a seasoned law firm leader and business and transactional lawyer. During his tenure as chair and global CEO of the legal practice, he led combinations with a 475 lawyer UK/Western European firm, an 80 lawyer Australian firm, and a 300 lawyer US-based firm with offices in the Middle East, as well as other growth initiatives around the world, including Asia.

Jim’s law practice has involved the representation of a diverse range of businesses in private equity infusions, public offerings and sophisticated domestic and international acquisitions, dispositions, financings and joint ventures.

Jim also counsels senior management and boards of directors on matters such as corporate governance and disclosure issues, development of acquisition strategies and dealing with financing sources.

Jim brings to his practice a unique business perspective. In addition to leadership positions within Squire Patton Boggs, he served as chair and CEO, and led the restructuring, of a prominent publicly held international engineering firm. Jim dealt with clients throughout the world, negotiated and managed major asset dispositions, orchestrated a debt restructuring and built effective relationships with divergent constituencies including bondholders, stockholders, joint venture partners, employees and customers. 

Jim has served on the boards of publicly held companies, including a bank holding company, as well as on the boards of an ESOP-owned government services provider and a joint venture performing a high-visibility US Department of Energy contract.

Jim is listed in Who’s Who in America and several other Who’s Who directories. He is active in business, community and nonprofit organizations.

He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Squire Patton Boggs Foundation, which promotes the role of public service and pro bono work in the practice of law and the development of public policy.
