Mailis Meier-Lutterodt is an associate in the firm’s International Dispute Resolution Practice. Mailis’s practice focuses on international arbitration, including both commercial and investment arbitration matters. She has acted as a member of a counsel team and has represented clients in arbitration proceedings under the SCC, UNCITRAL, ICC and ICSID arbitration rules.

Mailis is fully qualified in Estonia and has extensive experience in representing clients in Estonian litigation and bankruptcy proceedings.

Investment Arbitrations
  • Advising Romania in an ICSID Energy Charter Treaty arbitration relating to Romania’s changes to its legal framework in the renewable energy sector (ICSID Case No. ARB/21/54).
  • Advising Romania in an ICSID arbitration relating to a delayed real estate project (ICSID Case No. ARB/22/15).
  • Advising Latvia in an UNCITRAL Energy Charter Treaty arbitration relating to Latvia’s changes to its legal framework for the sale of electricity from high-efficiency combined heat and power plants.
  • Advising Libya in a €52 million arbitration relating to a construction project filed by the company Nurol Insaat ve Ticaret before the ICC under the Turkey-Libya Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT).
  • Advised Kosovo in an investment arbitration under the ICC rules regarding a dispute over an investment in a telecom company (Blerim Devolli v. Republic of Kosovo). All claims brought by the claimant were rejected on jurisdiction.
  • Advised Kosovo in an investment arbitration under the ICC rules against an Estonian company regarding the cancellation of a banking licence. (As IuteCredit Europe v. Republic of Kosovo, ICC Case No. 25135/HBH). All claims brought by the claimant were rejected.
  • Advised Kosovo in an investment arbitration under the ICC rules against an Estonian company regarding cancellation of a banking licence.
  • Represented Estonia in an UNCITRAL arbitration conducted under the BIT between the US and Estonia in connection with the alleged expropriation of a port.
  • Advised a group of German investors in an assessment of the merits of a renewable energy claim under the ECT and secured third-party funding.
  • Assisted counsel for Estonia in an ICSID arbitration conducted under the BIT between the Netherlands and Estonia in connection with the regulation of water fee rates (ICSID Case No. ARB14/24). All claims brought by the claimant were rejected.
International Commercial Arbitrations
  • Advising a Czech heavy metals producer in an ICC arbitration in connection with a breach of a supply agreement.
  • Represented an Estonian national in an SCC arbitration against a German national in connection with a breach of a cooperation agreement.
  • Advised an Estonian company in an SCC arbitration and the supporting Estonian domestic proceedings in a dispute regarding payment of a bank guarantee.
  • Represented an Estonian company in an SCC arbitration against a Russian company related to an alleged breach of a services agreement.
Estonian Litigation and Bankruptcy Proceedings
  • Represented an Estonian political party in a dispute over claims of reimbursement of an allegedly unlawful donation.
  • Represented an Estonian bank in bankruptcy proceedings of a real estate development project and ensuing litigation.
  • Represented an Estonian bank in bankruptcy proceedings of a major steel structure manufacturer.
  • Represented an international transportation products producer in an EU registered community design dispute against an Estonian company.
