Philip Prowse is an experienced commodities trade finance partner whose work covers the financing of the international supply of energy, and hard and soft commodities, with a focus on the finance, security and other transactional documents, which include all related sale and purchase, logistics, storage and other global supply chain contracts. He has acted for a wide range of clients in the commodities trade finance sector, including traders, commercial banks, development banks, other financial institutions, sellers and purchasers, and various intermediaries. He has acted in relation to many commodities trade finance structures, including prepays, inventory, limited recourse, borrowing base, receivables and repo financings, as well as on structures involving tolling, and, more generally, on project financings.

Philip also focuses on digital trade finance and technologies, having expertise in blockchain systems, digital assets – including carbon credits, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), smart contracts and crypto-assets – and in advising startups/spinoffs in relation to innovative digital projects, including digital trade sale and purchase software applications and platforms. He recently advised a Singaporean government agency in connection with its digital software system (TradeTrust) for the advent of electronic bills of lading and other electronic trade transferable documents.

Philip has considerable experience in acting on the finance and security aspects of major restructurings of entities within the global commodities market.

Philip is also very active in the voluntary carbon credits market, where he has advised world-leading commodities clients in connection with their carbon credits projects.
