Cheryl Risell is an associate in the Government Investigations & White Collar Practice Group. She regularly advises international and domestic clients with government investigations and white collar matters, including internal investigations, regulatory inquiries and developing, implementing and reviewing the effectiveness of global compliance programs.

Cheryl’s experience includes assisting clients at all phases of government inquiries and investigations. She tailors her approach to each client and guides them through interactions with the government, not only to resolve litigation, but also to avoid it. Her work includes responses to government inquiries, subpoenas, whistleblower complaints, interactions with state attorneys general, administrative enforcement actions and related issues. Cheryl has advised a variety of clients, including financial services firms, investment funds, sports academies, large corporations and individual executives.

In 2022, Cheryl was seconded for eight months with a global investment bank, where she worked with the Public Policy team to create and drive U.S. legislative and regulatory policy coordination for a portfolio of issues, including bank regulatory policy (e.g., regulation of security-based swaps, registration of investment advisers), cybersecurity/fintech, ESG, climate change policy, China policy and sanctions.

Cheryl is admitted to practice law in England and Wales, California, and is admitted as a special legal consultant in the District of Columbia. She regularly assists international clients navigating the US and the UK legal systems.
