Gerald R. Sharpe III is a litigation associate in Washington, DC. His practice focuses on complex federal trial and appellate litigation. He has drafted critical pleadings and motions in bet-the-company litigation against the federal government, prepared appellate briefing in high-stakes federal and state appeals, and litigated sensitive white-collar and complex commercial disputes. Gerald also collaborates with the firm’s Public Policy group, advising on the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) tariffs litigation and assisting with congressional lobbying efforts.
Gerald maintains a robust pro bono practice. Most recently, he authored an amicus brief in a first amendment case before the US Supreme Court, which has been cited in the parties’ briefing and in national media coverage.
Gerald graduated, summa cum laude and salutatorian, from the Catholic University of America’s Columbus School of Law. He will clerk for Judge Elizabeth L. Branch of the US Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit in August 2027, and for Judge Lee P. Rudofsky of the US District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas in August 2026.
In law school, Gerald served as lead articles editor of Catholic University Law Review, as the president of several student organizations and as a research assistant to multiple professors and academic centers. He was also a competing member of the moot court and national trial teams, earning numerous accolades for his oral advocacy. During law school, he completed various internships, including at the US Department of Justice and on the US District Court for the District of Columbia.
