James Thompson is a director in our Corporate Practice based in the Manchester office. Through roles in both private practice and in-house, James has established a broad and diverse skillset to service the needs of his clients. He delivers corporate acquisitions, disposals and joint venture arrangements, and provides commercial legal advice in the course of group restructures, private equity transactions and equity capital markets arrangements.

James spent more than five years in-house with the fully listed BAE Systems PLC and the private equity-backed Daisy Group, which are leaders in their respective fields. James’ clients benefit from the experience he gained within industry, allowing him to focus on what is important and driving transactions forward in the most effective and efficient manner for his clients.

  • Acted for shareholder managers on their multimillion-pound exit from a recruitment agency.
  • Advised the founders of a successful female fashion company on a major equity investment from the US.
  • Acted for both management and investors on private equity transactions.
  • Advised Redefine International plc on its reverse takeover of the fully listed Wichford plc and subsequent £100 million placement.
  • Delivered international group restructures for clients including Spectrum Brands (Remington and Russell Hobbs) and Equifax.
  • Managed and documented the outsourcing of a key element of an IT and telecoms business.
  • Negotiated key partner contracts with Vodafone, Fujitsu, HP, Accenture and BT.
  • Sole responsibility for legal support to the £1 billion turnover Combat Air support business and contracting with customers in India, the US, South Africa, Kuwait and the UK.
