Alexander Weatherall is a director in our Real Estate Practice focusing on energy and utilities, as well as compulsory purchase. He advises clients on a wide remit of onshore wind, green hydrogen, solar, battery storage, nuclear and conventional generation projects. Alexander’s practice encompasses all real estate aspects of the compulsory purchase process, from site assembly to general vesting declarations with considerable experience managing the relocation of affected businesses. He also regularly advises industrial clients on portfolio management of warehouse and production facilities.

  • Advising Sonnedix UK Holdings Limited on the acquisition of a 300MW portfolio of solar photovoltaic (PV) ready-to-build projects from Lightsource bp.
  • Advising S P Manweb PLC on the implementation of The North Shropshire Reinforcement Development Consent Order, securing property rights for the new 132kv overhead line between Oswestry and Wem.
  • Advising Adlington Golf Centre Limited, Brampton Health Golf Centre Limited and Luddington Golf Limited on the partial relocation of golf courses to accommodate public road schemes.
  • Acting for NNB Generation Company (HPC) Limited on the sale of surplus land at Bridgwater (Hinkley Point) to multiple housebuilders for development of over 1,000 new homes.
  • Advising EDF Energy Renewables Limited and Hynamics UK Limited on the Tees Green hydrogen production project.
  • Acting for EDF Energy Nuclear Generation Limited on the relocation of over 1,000 nuclear scientists, engineers and support staff to new premises in Gloucester Business Park.
  • Acting for EDF Energy Thermal Generation Limited on the sale of the 1332MW West Burton B CCGT power station, the 49MW West Burton battery plant and the West Burton C OCGT development site.
  • Advising Stellar Asset Management on the sale of the Askam and Lowca wind farms.
  • Advising EDF Energy Renewables Limited on the share acquisition of Pivot Power Limited, including a 2GW portfolio of battery storage projects.
  • Acting for EDF Energy Renewables Limited on the real estate elements of the sale of a minority stake in 24 UK wind farms (circa 550MW) to Dalmore Capital Limited and Pensions Infrastructure Platform.
  • Advising Volta Energy Group on the establishment of a portfolio of utility-scale battery energy storage projects across the UK, including negotiation of options and leases, and completion of site due diligence.
  • Advising National Grid on the separation of operational sites and subsequent sales of surplus land for third-party development.
