Alexander Weatherall is a director in our Real Estate Practice focusing on energy and utilities, as well as compulsory purchase. He advises clients on a wide remit of onshore wind, green hydrogen, solar, battery storage, nuclear and conventional generation projects. Alexander’s practice encompasses all real estate aspects of the compulsory purchase process, from site assembly to general vesting declarations with considerable experience managing the relocation of affected businesses. He also regularly advises industrial clients on portfolio management of warehouse and production facilities.

  • Providing real estate advice to Grafton Group plc on the £82 million share purchase of Leyland SDM (London's largest independent specialist decorators' merchant).
  • Advising CMS Distribution Limited on the lease of a 142,000 sq. ft. industrial warehouse at Wakefield Europort.
  • Advising Polypipe Group plc on real estate acquisitions linked to the £52 million purchase of Manthorpe Building Products Holdings Limited.
  • Providing real estate advice to a Hong Kong-based investment holding company in relation to the purchase of Wigan Athletic Football Club.
  • Advising Adlington Golf Centre Limited on the relocation of its nine hole academy course in conjunction with the Poynton Relief Road Compulsory Purchase Order.
  • Advising the Old Saltleians Rugby Football Club on the temporary and permanent relocation of club facilities and playing fields due to the HS2 rail project.
  • Advising Gosport Borough Council on the implementation of compulsory purchase powers to facilitate the re-development of the Rowner Estate into a mixed use scheme including 700 residential units, a community centre and a supermarket store.
  • Advising the parent company of a major UK gas operator on the implementation of a gas pipeline Development Consent Order.
  • Advising a specialist developer on the establishment of a portfolio of utility scale battery energy storage projects across the UK including negotiation of options and leases and completion of site due diligence.
  • Advising National Grid on the separation of operational sites and subsequent sales of surplus land for third-party development.
  • Advising owners and funders on land options, leases and access arrangements for wind farm development acquisitions and disposals.
  • Advising an energy fund on the site acquisition and property aspects of a £30 million investment in a combined heat and power (CHP) plant.
  • Negotiating a crossing agreement for a HVAC electrical interconnector to pass through a distributed energy network.
  • Advising a broadband provider on the roll out of rooftop telecommunications leases and ancillary cabling for its London network.
  • Advising a global publishing company on the management of its real estate portfolio, including leases of new offices in Northern Ireland and Saudi Arabia.
  • Advising funders and contractors on the acquisition and subsequent development of primary care medical centres across the UK as part of the NHS Local Improvement and Finance Trust (LIFT) schemes.
