Squire Patton Boggs has appointed Enrique Luzόn as of counsel in its Litigation Practice Group in Madrid.
Welcoming Enrique, Stephen Sampson, EMEA head of the Litigation Practice Group, said, “We continue to expand our practice in key jurisdictions, with a focus on advising clients who face complex, high-value disputes. Enrique advises clients, both national and international, on various criminal proceedings before the Spanish Courts. He has been involved in numerous proceedings before the courts, including some of the most significant cases in Spain. He also specializes in advising clients on criminal compliance matters such as the implementation of compliance programs, the prevention of criminal risk, and handling whistle-blowing channels and internal investigations.
Among his recent matters, he has defended a company in the optical sector before the Supreme Court of Spain, achieving the revocation of sentences imposed for several tax fraud criminal offences; he has represented the directors of a Luxembourg financial services company in criminal proceedings before the Central Criminal Courts of Spain for money laundering charges relating to an international trade operation between Spain and Angola; and he has represented the former CEO of the real-state division of a bank in several criminal proceedings before the Central Criminal Courts of Spain on charges of embezzlement in the context of inversions and acquisitions in several countries including Spain, Mexico and Hungary.
Prior to joining the firm, Enrique held senior positions at other international and national law firms and served as a lecturer in Criminal Law in Spanish universities, including Universidad Carlos III Madrid and Universidad de Vigo, as well as an invited speaker at several Latin American universities. He currently teaches in master's programs organized by the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and Universidad San Pablo CEU. Enrique holds a degree in law and a post-graduate Master’s degree in business law from Universidad de Alcalá de Henares. He speaks English, French and Spanish, has been a member of the Madrid Bar Association since 2001.
