Global law firm Squire Patton Boggs welcomes William “Billy” Eisenhauer to its Litigation Practice following his service as a law clerk to Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr. of the Supreme Court of the United States during the Court’s October 2025 Term.

Eisenhauer joins the firm after completing a series of prestigious federal judicial clerkships. In addition to clerking for Chief Justice Roberts, he served as a law clerk to Judge Amul Thapar of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and Judge Ben Beaton of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky.

“Billy brings an exceptional combination of court experience, academic achievement and leadership to our team,” said Appellate & Supreme Court Practice co-chair Lauren Kuley. “His experience clerking for Chief Justice Roberts, Judge Thapar and Judge Beaton provides him with valuable perspective on complex legal issues and federal litigation. We are thrilled to welcome him to the firm and look forward to the contributions he will make for our clients.”

Commenting on his arrival, Mr. Eisenhauer said: “I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have learned from Chief Justice Roberts, Judge Thapar and Judge Beaton, as well as the many talented lawyers and mentors who have shaped my career. Those experiences have given me an appreciation for the highest standards of legal advocacy and a deep respect for the profession. I am excited to begin the next chapter of my career at Squire Patton Boggs and to work alongside the firm’s talented roster of litigators around the world.”

Before attending law school, he served as a submarine officer in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Alaksa. During his naval career, he earned numerous honors, including multiple Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals and a Meritorious Unit Commendation, reflecting his longstanding commitment to excellence and public service.

Eisenhauer earned his law degree from the University of Notre Dame Law School, where he served as Executive Editor of the Notre Dame Law Review and received the Colonel William J. Hoynes Award for finishing first in his class. He received his B.S., with merit, from the United States Naval Academy.
