Squire Patton Boggs Expands Financial Services Practice Group in Dallas

Squire Patton Boggs is pleased to announce that Richard Potomac has joined the firm’s global Financial Services Practice Group as Of Counsel, based in Dallas. He joins from JPMorgan Chase & Co., where he served as Vice President, Assistant General Counsel for the Payments business.

Mr. Potomac advises financial institutions and fintech companies on complex regulatory, transactional and compliance matters, including commercial and technology transactions, payments law, corporate governance and financial regulatory strategy. He brings more than a decade of experience across the private sector and federal government. He has served in house at two large public banks, where he supported payments operations, negotiated complex agreements and advised on data protection, electronic payments and third party risk, and as a senior attorney at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, where he advised on regulatory, licensing and enforcement matters and supported the agency’s groundbreaking responsible financial innovation initiative. He has also practiced at another global law firm, where he counseled financial institution clients on mergers and acquisitions, securities offerings and regulatory engagements.

“Richard’s extensive background across payments, financial regulation, and commercial transactions, along with his in-house experience at major financial institutions, makes him a natural fit for our growing team,” said Jim Barresi, Global Head of Squire Patton Boggs’ Financial Services Practice. “His expertise further strengthens our ability to deliver practical, integrated advice in the evolving payments and fintech space.”

Dallas Managing Partner Jon Mureen added, “As Dallas attracts an increasing number of financial institutions and fintech companies, the market offers significant opportunities for our Financial Services practice. Commenting on his move, Mr. Potomac said, “I’m excited to join Squire Patton Boggs’ Financial Services team at a time of rapid change across the payments and fintech landscape. The firm’s global platform, deep regulatory insight, transactional expertise, and business focused approach align well with my experience advising financial institutions on complex payments and technology matters. I look forward to helping clients navigate regulatory change while advancing their business objectives. Also, as a Dallas resident, I’m eager to help strengthen the firm’s presence in North Texas through relationships in the community.”
