Joanna Galbraith is a director in the Labour & Employment team, based in the Birmingham office. She works under a job share arrangement with Sophie Copson, another director in the team.
Joanna has experience of advising clients in all areas of employment law, including both contentious and non-contentious matters. She is accustomed to running complex and high-profile employment tribunal claims involving multiple respondents, senior level exits and large-scale transformation projects, including those with international elements.
Joanna also regularly advises on contract and policy reviews, changes to terms and conditions. She has recently advised a large, heavily unionised client undergoing a major change project with multiple stakeholders, involving collective redundancy consultation, advice on TUPE issues and trade union relations. She has several years’ experience working with clients in the energy and utilities sector.
Joanna is a regular speaker at client training events, both those run by the firm in-house and those designed and delivered specifically to meet client needs.
Joanna participates in various pro bono activities locally, including volunteering for the Birmingham Legal Advice Clinic.
Advising a plc client on a high value Employment Tribunal claim, internal investigation and Data Subject Access Request (DSAR), involving high-profile individuals, multiple respondents and cross-jurisdictional issues.
Acting in a tribunal claim relating to alleged breaches of the TUPE Regulations in which there were multiple claimants and respondents.
Advising on the exit of a senior individual who had made potentially damaging allegations of discrimination relating to the company as a whole, as well as specific management colleagues.
Dealing with a breach of contract claim in the employment tribunal for a global software company, in respect of a claim for alleged unpaid bonus payments totally £1 million.
Project managing a cross-border matter involving 21 global jurisdictions giving advice on the risks associated with running background checks on employees.
Working with clients to assist them with compliance with the duty to take steps to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace, particularly in the hospitality sector, including training sessions, policy reviews and advice on risk assessments.
