Jorge López Fung is a senior associate in the firm’s International Dispute Resolution Practice Group, based in Miami. A Peruvian-qualified lawyer with more than 15 years of experience, Jorge represents sovereign states, state-owned entities and private companies in international commercial and investment arbitrations, with a particular focus on disputes involving Latin America.
Jorge has acted in more than 50 arbitrations arising from major infrastructure projects, public concessions and complex commercial relationships. His work spans transportation, construction and engineering, energy and natural resources, mining, telecommunications, aviation and corporate disputes. He has handled matters involving International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC), New Engineering Contract (NEC) and Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contracts, as well as M&A transactions, joint ventures and shareholder agreements.
His cases often involve project delays and cost overruns, price-adjustment mechanisms, contract termination, damages and the allocation of regulatory and commercial risk. He also advises clients on strategies to prevent commercial and investment disputes.
Jorge has acted in proceedings administered by the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA), as well as ad hoc proceedings under the UN Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) Arbitration Rules and arbitrations before leading Latin American institutions. His cases have been seated in Miami, New York, Washington DC, London, Santiago, Lima and Santo Domingo.
His practice also encompasses dispute boards and ex aequo et bono arbitrations. He has sought and opposed interim relief before courts, arbitral tribunals and emergency arbitrators, and has acted in post-award matters involving the recognition and enforcement of awards, revision and annulment. His work also includes document production, arbitral hearings and the preparation and examination of fact witnesses, as well as legal, technical and quantum experts.
Jorge is included on the rosters of arbitrators of several institutions in Latin America, including the Arbitration Center of the Lima Chamber of Commerce (LCC), the AmCham Peru Arbitration Center, the Arbitration and Dispute Resolution Center of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (CARC PUCP) and the Latin American Center for Arbitration and Mediation. He teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses in arbitration at Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP) and Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC). Jorge regularly speaks at arbitration conferences and has published on international commercial and investment arbitration.
Jorge serves as the Miami representative of the Institute for Transnational Arbitration’s Americas Initiative and as the US representative of ALARB Next Generation. He is also a founder and former president of Arbitraje Alumni and Lima Very Young Arbitration Practitioners.
Jorge holds an LL.M. in International Arbitration from the University of Miami School of Law, an LL.M. in Comparative and International Dispute Resolution (with distinction) from Queen Mary University of London and a J.D. from UPC. He has also completed postgraduate programs in international commercial and investment arbitration at American University Washington College of Law and Universidad del Pacífico. His additional postgraduate studies include administrative law at UPC (ranked first in the program) and energy management and supervision at PUCP.

Representing the Republic of Peru in three ICSID arbitrations brought by Metro de Lima Línea 2 S.A. (ICSID Case Nos. ARB/17/3, ARB/21/41 and ARB/21/57), arising from the concession agreement for the construction and operation of Line 2 of the Lima Metro. The representation also includes revision and annulment proceedings relating to the award in the first arbitration.
Representing the Republic of Peru in Concesionaria Angostura Siguas, S.A. v. Republic of Peru (ICSID Case No. ARB/24/43), an arbitration arising from the concession agreement for the Majes Siguas II irrigation project.
Representing the Republic of Peru in Operadora Ecológica del Titicaca S.A.C. v. Republic of Peru (ICSID Case No. ARB/23/11), an arbitration concerning a concession agreement for the construction of a wastewater treatment system in the Lake Titicaca region.
Representing the Republic of Peru in TV Azteca S.A.B. de C.V. and Azteca Comunicaciones Perú S.A.C. v. Republic of Peru (ICSID Case No. ARB/23/37), arbitration arising under the Mexico-Peru Free Trade Agreement and a concession contract to roll out a nationwide telecommunications network in Peru.
Representing a Latin American airport concessionaire in an ICC arbitration with its seat in a Latin American country, arising from the interpretation and performance of commercial agreements related to airport terminal operations.
Representing the Republic of Ecuador in Junefield Gold Investments Limited v. Republic of Ecuador (PCA Case No. 2023-35), an investment arbitration concerning measures affecting the Río Blanco gold and silver mining project.
Representing PeruPetro, S.A. in Upland Oil and Gas LLC and Upland Oil and Gas LLC, Sucursal del Perú v. PeruPetro, S.A. (ICSID Case No. ARB/26/5), an arbitration arising from the license contract for Block XXIII in Peru.
Represented a Peruvian state-owned company in an ICC arbitration seated in Miami against an oil block operator, its non-operating partners, parent companies and financial guarantors.
Represented a US company, a minority shareholder of a parent company incorporated in the British Virgin Islands, in an arbitration brought by subsidiaries in the telecommunications infrastructure sector. The arbitration was seated in Peru and administered by the LCC. Related arbitrations were also initiated in Guatemala and Honduras.
Represented a Peruvian energy group in three ICC arbitrations seated in Peru against a Brazilian power plant concessionaire, arising from EPC contracts for civil works, hydromechanical works and a transmission line.
Represented a Chilean state-owned energy company in an international commercial arbitration initiated by a Spanish construction company. The seat of the arbitration was Chile, and it was administered by the ICC.
Represented a Peruvian energy group in two international commercial arbitrations initiated by a Brazilian construction company (PPA and OAM contracts). These arbitrations were administered by the LCC.
Represented a telecommunications company in an international arbitration against a Chinese company. This arbitration was administered by the LCC.
Represented a Chilean-owned company in an arbitration initiated by a Peruvian construction company. This arbitration was administered by the LCC.
Represented a Spanish construction company against a Peruvian real estate company. This arbitration was administered by the LCC. The scope of a construction contract was disputed, including outstanding valuations and compensation for damages.
Represented a state-owned company in an arbitration initiated by a subcontractor in charge of the construction and commissioning of a multibuoy terminal for the unloading of diesel. The seat of the arbitration was Peru, and it was administered by the LCC.
Represented a Peruvian state-owned company in an arbitration initiated by a private company in the environmental sector. This arbitration was administered by the LCC.
