For those passionate about justice and making a difference, pro bono work gives our colleagues a unique opportunity to use their legal skills for the benefit of vulnerable individuals. Just ask Jessica Antal, our pro bono manager based in Perth, Australia.
Before joining the firm in 2022, I built a strong foundation in commercial litigation at another firm. I specialized in large-scale litigation – including cases involving misleading and deceptive conduct as well as antibribery and -corruption.
Even early in my career I had a keen interest in social justice. I actively exceeded pro bono quotas each year and embraced opportunities to provide legal assistance to those who needed it most. This passion and those skills ultimately paved the way for my transition into a dedicated pro bono role at the firm.
Since I joined Squire Patton Boggs, our commitment to pro bono work has strengthened, and we are eager to see it continue to grow. When pro bono becomes ingrained in the firm’s DNA, it doesn’t just benefit clients, it enriches our lawyers’ lives and deepens our engagement with the wider community.
I’m particularly proud of the criminal injuries compensation work the firm undertakes in collaboration with Women’s Legal Service WA. Assisting victims of crime – especially those who have endured domestic violence or sexual assault – is a profound way to make an impact. Several of our clients have received maximum compensation awards of AU$150,000, offering critical financial and emotional support in rebuilding their lives.
