This is an introductory guide to aspects of the English law of guarantees, and provides (among other things): (a) an explanation of the English law distinction between a true guarantee (i.e. a see-to-it guarantee) and an indemnity (such as a demand guarantee); (b) an explanation of the legal significance of such distinction; and (c) some practical recommendations in relation to such documentary instruments.
