The Network and Information Security (NIS) Directive was the first piece of horizontal EU-wide legislation on cybersecurity, aimed at achieving a high common level of cybersecurity across the member states. To respond to the growing threats posed with digitalization and the surge of cyber-attacks, the original NIS Directive will now be replaced by a revamped NIS2 which focuses on enforcing higher levels of common security practices, ensuring uniformity in implementation across EU member states and expanding the number of sectors affected.
