Dr. Axel Kunze is a director in the Real Estate Practice Group based in our Berlin office. His expertise covers German and international real estate law, real estate transactions and project development agreements.

He represents national and international investors and project developers as well as general contractors and lessors. Furthermore, he is an expert in the field of real estate-related litigation and arbitration including all forms of adjudication procedures.

Axel holds a German PhD in German civil procedure law. He has been admitted as a certified lawyer for construction and architect's law ("Fachanwalt für Bau- und Architektenrecht") to all German courts. He is also listed in The International Who's Who of Business Lawyers 2013 Annual Compendium and recommended in The Legal 500 for real estate and dispute resolution advice.

  • Advises on all real estate aspects of most of the corporate transactions advised on by our German team.
  • Advising the second largest private German bank on the sale of their former headquarters in Frankfurt ("Kaisercarré").
  • Representing an international hotel group in their activities in Germany, including various long-term lease agreements.
  • Advising an American private equity investor on the sale of the historic Ernst-Reuter-Haus in Berlin including advising on the project management.
  • Representing the biggest city in Germany in respect to various school projects, including among other things advice on the construction and architect's contracts and the supervision of the litigation with one of the contractors.
  • Advising a lending low-cost airline on the rental agreements for the start-up of operations in Germany at the Berlin-Schönefeld and Dortmund airports as well as on the expansion of their activities to other German airports.
  • Coordinating the work of the foreign legal counsels of the insolvency trustee of the former Bulgarian flag-carrier in respect to litigation and commercial issues associated with the liquidation of the company's assets in several Western European jurisdictions.
  • Advising a major Irish bank on the liquidation of their asset management activities in Germany.
