Alex Villers is an associate in the Litigation team in Manchester and qualified in September 2018, after training with the firm. During his time in the team, Alex has assisted with many types of litigation, including claims relating to contractual disputes, professional negligence claims and commercial debt claims.

  • Advising a high-profile bank in relation to claims against property valuers and conveyancing solicitors regarding mortgage transactions.
  • Advising Manchester Building Society in its successful Supreme Court appeal against Grant Thornton (Manchester Building Society v Grant Thornton UK LLP [2021] UKSC 20).
  • Advising numerous banks and building societies on claims against negligent accountants, solicitors and surveyors.
  • Acting for one of the largest pension schemes in the country in recovering overpayments made to members and taking subsequent enforcement action to recover debts.
  • Advising a national company in relation to a number of negligence claims, as well as claims relating to employees’ breach of employment contracts.
  • Enforcing foreign judgments in England and Wales, and recovering debts owed to clients based in foreign jurisdictions.
  • Acting for the founder of a care home group in defence of £30 million restitution claims brought by the FCA, involving allegations of operating unauthorised collective investment schemes and breaches of sections 89 and 90 of the Financial Services Act 2012.
  • Working on large-scale bank investigations to review potential breaches of AML and compliance regulations. Each of the investigations was conducted in the bank’s jurisdiction and included a number of banks internationally. The investigations involved targeted reviews of the bank’s documents and systems in order to prepare reports for and liaise with the relevant authorities.
