Against a backdrop of rising cybersecurity attacks on critical industries and infrastructure, the EU will implement its new Network and Information Systems Directive (NIS2) on 18 October 2024. It builds on the previous NIS Directive (NIS1), affecting more sectors, with stricter reporting requirements and higher fines for noncompliance, including personal liability for senior management for certain obligations.
