Carlton Daniel Appointed Europe Head of Intellectual Property & Technology

Squire Patton Boggs has appointed partner, Carlton Daniel, as Europe Head of the Intellectual Property & Technology (IP&T) Practice Group, to succeed Andrew Wilkinson who is now European Managing Partner.

Carlton advises a wide range of clients on intellectual property rights, commercial contracts and consumer regulatory law, leading on both contentious and non-contentious matters. Carlton has a particular focus on providing advice to clients in the advertising, marketing and media sectors, and to businesses operating in the life sciences/healthcare, food and drink, retail, automotive, tech and financial services sectors. He has been global co-lead of the firm’s Advertising, Media and Brands group since 2020, helping organisations protect, commercialise, and maximise the value of their intellectual property assets, while navigating fast-evolving regulatory and technological landscapes.

David Elkins, who heads the global Intellectual Property & Technology Practice Group, said, “Carlton is well placed to guide our practice across Europe. He is a highly-experienced and skilled practitioner who has successfully led our specialist advertising, media and brand teams for several years; from trade marks and copyright to advertising and gambling law, Carlton is an authority in his field and has also proven himself a thought leader in IP and advertising and emerging areas such as generative AI.”

In his new role, Carlton will lead the firm’s European IP&T practice, working closely with colleagues across jurisdictions to support clients facing increasingly complex cross-border challenges driven by innovation, digitalisation, market pressure and regulatory change.

“Carlton is an outstanding lawyer and a natural leader,” said Andrew Wilkinson, European Managing Partner. “He combines deep technical expertise with a forward-looking understanding of how technology and IP shape our clients’ businesses. I am confident he will continue to build on the strength of our European IP&T platform.”

Reflecting on his appointment, Carlton Daniel commented: “I am honoured to take on this role at such an important time for our clients and the market. Intellectual property and technology issues sit at the heart of business strategy, growth, and resilience. I look forward to working with our exceptional teams across Europe to continue delivering innovative, commercial, and practical solutions for our clients.”
