Squire Patton Boggs has advised the minority shareholders of Argentis Group (formerly known as the “Hurst Point Group”), the portfolio company of the Carlyle Group, on the acquisition by Shackleton Advisers Limited (“Shackleton”). The transaction follows multiple acquisitions and a re-organisation of Hurst Point Group on which Squire Patton Boggs also advised.
The team was led by London Corporate partner Julian Thatcher and was supported by Leeds director Josh Lodge.
The combination of Shackleton and Argentis has created one of the UK’s largest, independent financial planning and wealth management businesses. Argentis Group’s existing majority shareholder, Carlyle, has become a minority investor in Shackleton alongside funds managed by Lee Equity Partners, LLC, which became Shackleton’s majority shareholder in November 2025.
Julian Thatcher commented: “It was fantastic to work with the Argentis Group management team, alongside Carlyle, again on the exit of a business that we have supported on all of its M&A and wider corporate matters over a number of years. This was a complex transaction and an extremely positive outcome for all concerned and continues our focus on regulated businesses in the financial and business services sectors.”
