Marion Cavalier is a Paris-based senior associate and a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property & Technology and Data Privacy, Cybersecurity & Digital Assets Practices. Her practice encompasses patent, trademark, domain name and commercial litigation before French courts and arbitration tribunals. Marion also advises clients on IP strategy, IP and IT agreements, IP, IT and privacy aspects of transactions, and privacy compliance programmes.

Her experience spans a broad range of industries with particular emphasis on the technology, media, telecommunications and life sciences sectors.

Marion advises global clients on compliance with privacy laws and regulations, including the GDPR. She also assists clients with all aspects of breach response, including DPA and individual notifications, coordination with IT and crisis management teams, and litigation preparation.

Marion’s experience includes serving as a legal editor at the National Archives, the official archive and publisher for the government of the UK. In that capacity, she took part in a multidisciplinary, international research project called “Big Data for Law”, focusing on the relationship between technology and law on a global scale.

  • Handling trademark and copyright cases for a major player in the field of electronic goods.
  • Represented a fintech company in a cross-border inventorship case (France and the US).
  • Represented a global provider of high-tech solutions for both civil and defence application in arbitration proceedings against a major aerospace defence player involving trade secret, misappropriation of know-how and unfair competition claims.
  • Negotiated the termination of a trademark licence between two major players in the media sector.
  • Handled the IP and data protection due diligence of Darewise, a company developing a videogame involving “blockchain gaming” technology for buyer Animoca.
  • Assisted a global technology company with GDPR compliance and responding to a data breach that impacted 3.4 million users. Services included reporting the breach to the French Supervisory Authority and advising on litigation issues.
  • Assisted a large international client with more than 20,000 employees worldwide in drafting privacy policies for employees in more than 30 countries.
  • Assisted a US company in the digital advertising business with GDPR compliance.
