Jonathan R. Weiss is a partner in the firm’s Litigation Practice and resident in the Miami office. He is an accomplished litigator and trial lawyer, focusing on complex commercial litigation before state and federal courts, including all manner of contract disputes, construction litigation, premises liability, product liability and cybersecurity litigation.

    Jonathan has a particular focus in the area of real estate litigation, representing REITs, developers, commercial property owners and management companies in landlord/tenant, contract and construction disputes.

    Prior to joining Squire Patton Boggs, Jonathan was a partner at Florida’s fourth largest defense firm.

    Jonathan is actively involved in coaching the University of Miami School of Law Moot Court Board in national competitions for appellate advocacy.

    • Lead counsel defending publicly-traded REIT in a class action dispute arising from COVID-19 related claims, resulting in complete dismissal.
    • Serve as national counsel for international watch manufacturer and its subsidiaries arising from commercial transactions.
    • Lead counsel in numerous commercial disputes on behalf of publicly-traded REIT, successfully obtaining judgments in excess of US$5 million dollars in contract damages.
    • Successfully defended the fourth largest school board in the US in various civil disputes.
    • Obtained full indemnity on behalf of one of the largest real estate development firms in Miami Dade County, as lead defense counsel, with regard to catastrophic construction accident, in which plaintiffs sought in excess of US$10 million dollars.
    • Lead defense counsel in statutory dram shop lawsuit on behalf of preeminent restaurant franchise, resulting in complete dismissal of all claims on substantive and procedural grounds.
    • Lead trial counsel for fire extinguisher distributor in regard to product liability for malfunctioning fire extinguisher, alleged to have caused more than US$5 million dollars in damage to fine art gallery. Obtained a complete defense verdict and recovered attorneys’ fees and costs.
    • Lead trial counsel for one of the largest insurance companies in the country in a quasi-contractual coverage dispute, in which plaintiff sought millions of dollars in damages. Obtained a complete defense verdict.
    • Obtained favorable settlement as lead defense counsel for environmental consulting firm with regard to catastrophic construction accident resulting from removal of underground storage tanks at gas station site.
    • Represented an internationally-known celebrity and entrepreneur accused of assaulting paparazzi.
    • Obtained favorable settlement as lead counsel on behalf of real estate investor against hedge fund with regard to commercial reasonableness of short term loan, including claims of fraud and violation of Florida’s Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act.
