Squire Patton Boggs is pleased to announce that Taryn Frideres has rejoined the firm as a partner in its Global Public Policy Practice.
She returns following more than a decade of senior public service, most recently serving as Chief of Staff to Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds. Previously, she held senior positions at the US Department of State and served as General Counsel to US Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), where she supported the Senator’s work on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.
“Taryn’s experience across state, federal and international government gives her a unique perspective on the policy, economic and national security issues that matter most to our clients,” said Public Policy Practice Group Leader Aubrey Rothrock. “She has advised governors, senators, ambassadors and senior cabinet officials on many of the issues shaping today’s business and geopolitical landscape. Her experience will be a tremendous asset and we are delighted to welcome her back.”
Ms. Frideres brings extensive experience advising senior government leaders on matters spanning public policy, national and economic security, international affairs, trade, agriculture and state governance. As Chief of Staff to Governor Reynolds, she helped lead an administration responsible for approximately 18,000 state employees and a budget exceeding US$20 billion, while overseeing policy coordination on issues including healthcare, workforce development, tax, education, public safety and disaster response.
Before returning to her native Iowa to join Governor Reynolds’ administration, Ms. Frideres held a series of senior roles at the US Department of State. As Senior Advisor to the Deputy Secretary of State, she counseled one of the department’s top officials on national security, foreign policy and international legal matters and helped implement strategic initiatives. She also served as Deputy to the US Ambassador to the United Nations, coordinating engagement with the White House, federal agencies and Congress. Earlier, as General Counsel to Senator Ernst, she advised on homeland security, constitutional law, criminal justice and trade policy issues, including legislative initiatives that were enacted into law.
Ms. Frideres began her legal career with Squire Patton Boggs as an associate in 2010 after serving as a summer associate in 2009. During her time with the firm, she worked with sovereign governments and multinational companies on matters involving trade, sanctions, defense and international public policy.

The firm has made a series of strategic hires into its Policy team including congressional investigations expert Giancarlo Pellegrini; former Commerce official Trevor Kellogg; former State Department official Timothy Lenderking; former Treasury official Anna Morris; former senior Interior Department official Adam Suess; Capitol Hill veteran Jennifer Goedke, and political strategist Jacob Hochberg.
