Helen Yang focuses her practice on complex commercial litigation in both state and federal courts.

Helen handles an extensive variety of cases including environmental toxic tort litigation, business contractual disputes, product liability, real estate and intellectual property matters. She is versed in the strategic use of prejudgment and pretrial law and motion practice and has experience representing the firm’s clients in the courtroom, depositions and in alternative dispute resolution.

Since 2011, Helen has been recognized selected as a Southern California Rising Star in a survey conducted by Thomson Reuters, a distinction honoring the top up-and-coming lawyers in the region.

Helen is a licensed real estate broker in California.

Helen served as a judicial extern for The Honorable J. Spencer Letts of the Central District of California and an extern for the Legal Department of the Screen Actors Guild.

  • Representing a major chemical manufacturer in a multidistrict litigation involving claims of drinking water contamination by perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) that resulted in serious personal injuries, with a particular emphasis on scientific and expert issues.
  • Currently representing a company who was served with a pre-litigation (class action) demand over claims that its products were falsely labeled as “natural” and “organic”.
  • Defending a leading maker of probiotic drinks in a putative federal class action that alleges false advertising of the potential health benefits of consuming these beverages.
  • Representing plaintiffs in a major false advertising case between the manufacturers of refined sugar and manufacturers of high fructose corn syrup, including claims that various formulations of HFCS were falsely branded as “natural”.
  • Defending a former zinc smelter and mining operation in a class action involving allegations of exposure to arsenic, cadmium and lead.
  • Obtaining favorable settlements in disputes concerning breach of software licensing agreements and trademark infringement.
  • Obtaining the complete dismissal of a California company and its foreign corporate parent, both of which had been sued in more than 40 coordinated cases in California state court alleging the toxic exposure of thousands of plaintiffs to hexavalent chromium from the clinker dust from the cement operations of several enterprises.
  • Obtaining summary judgment representing a top internet-based postage and shipping company in an intellectual property dispute involving claims for patent infringement.
  • Defending product liability actions and obtaining numerous dismissals and summary judgments in representation of one of the nation’s largest occupant safety systems manufacturer.
  • Obtaining summary judgment on behalf of multiple global manufacturers against a California state agency in a complex, multiparty environmental case involving the alleged contamination of soil and groundwater with numerous solvents and perchlorate at numerous industrial sites.
  • Representing the nation’s largest specialty retailer of fabrics and crafts in contractual dispute over a commercial lease and obtaining favorable settlement.
  • Obtaining favorable settlement for international client in action to recover parcel of commercial property wrongfully transferred.
  • Defending defendants in action alleging contamination had migrated from a US EPA Superfund site to an adjacent property and caused injuries to workers there.
  • Obtaining complete dismissal for international bank in action asserting claims for breach of fiduciary duty and breach of contract.
  • Defending a top Japan-based automobile manufacturer in a global manufacturing dispute involving major Korea- and US-based automakers and acting as of counsel for successful opposition to a petition for certiorari to the United States Supreme Court.
