Firm Continues Public Policy Practice Growth With Two Hires

Squire Patton Boggs continued the expansion of its Global Public Policy Practice with the addition of Nick Rockwell and Chris K. Crawford as Principals in the firm’s Washington, DC office.

“Nick and Chris bring highly complementary experience and perspectives to our growing Public Policy Practice,” said Public Policy Practice Group Leader Aubrey Rothrock. “Nick has been at the center of some of the most consequential developments in financial services, digital assets and financial technology policy, while Chris brings deep experience on Capitol Hill across health care, energy and other issues before the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Their arrival reflects our continued investment in these critical policy areas and our commitment to helping clients navigate an increasingly complex legislative and regulatory environment.”

The additions follow a series of strategic hires into Squire Patton Boggs’ Global Public Policy Practice

Nick Rockwell most recently served as Staff Director for the House Committee on Financial Services' Subcommittee on Digital Assets, Financial Technology, and Artificial Intelligence in the 119th Congress, where he helped lead the development of major legislation addressing digital assets, financial innovation, artificial intelligence, and consumer financial products. His work included the STABLE Act, which developed into GENIUS Act, the CLARITY Act, the American Reserve Modernization Act, the Earned Wage Access Consumer Protection Act, the Unleashing AI Innovation in Financial Services Act, among others.

Rockwell previously served as a Professional Staff Member on the House Committee on Agriculture in the 118th Congress, where he managed a broad issue portfolio that included derivatives, digital assets, rural development, and energy. In that role, he was instrumental in developing Titles VI (Rural Development) and IX (Energy) of the 2024 Farm Bill and contributed significantly to the Financial Innovation and Technology for the 21st Century Act (FIT21).

Earlier in his career, Rockwell spent six years in the office of Rep. Glenn “GT” Thompson (R-PA), serving as Legislative Director during his final two years. He directed the Congressman’s legislative agenda across a wide range of issues, including education, workforce development, telecommunications, and appropriations, providing him with experience on policy matters extending well beyond financial services and agriculture.

Rockwell commented, “I’m honored to join Squire Patton Boggs and work alongside a team with such a strong reputation. The firm has a long, storied history of helping clients navigate complex legislative and regulatory issues, and I look forward to being part of that work, particularly with clients in financial services and agriculture.”

Chris Crawford brings more than 20 years of Capitol Hill experience and deep expertise in legislative strategy, health care, pharmaceutical, energy and stakeholder engagement. He joins Squire Patton Boggs from the office of Congressman Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA), where he served for more than a decade as Chief of Staff. In 2025, he was recognized as Chief of Staff of the Year by the Congressional Management Foundation through a bipartisan selection process.

Mr. Crawford advised Congressman Carter on his work on the House Energy and Commerce Committee and his leadership of the Health and Environment Subcommittees. He managed a broad legislative agenda and coordinated with House leadership, committee chairs and senior Administration officials. Mr. Crawford’s experience spans health care, pharmaceuticals, energy, agriculture, appropriations and economic development.

Prior to serving as Chief of Staff to Congressman Carter, Mr. Crawford advanced to the role of Deputy Chief of Staff to former Congressman Jack Kingston (R-GA), also now with Squire Patton Boggs. During this period, he advanced the legislative agenda of a senior Appropriations Committee member, serving during his Chairmanship of the Agriculture-FDA and Labor-HHS Subcommittees and his senior membership on the Defense Subcommittee.

Recent hires into the firm’s Global Public Policy Practice include the recent return of former Iowa Chief of Staff and US State Department advisor Taryn Frideres, congressional investigations expert Giancarlo Pellegrini, former Commerce Department official Trevor Kellogg, former State Department official Timothy Lenderking, former Treasury official Anna Morris, former senior Interior Department official Adam Suess, Capitol Hill veteran Jennifer Goedke and political strategist Jacob Hochberg.
